Literary Character Dress-up Day

On Friday, our school had Literary Character Dress-up Day. Everyone came dressed as their favorite literary character. Ms. Tricoli, our librarian, was Tacky the Penguin, Mrs. Oliver, our vice-principal, was Viola Swamp from Miss Nelson is Missing, and Miss Pollard, one of our first grade teachers, was Chrysanthemum. The kindergartners dressed as the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree from the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

Pumpkin Memories

We had a week of pumpkin fun. We estimated and measured the circumference of our class pumpkin. We measured its height with cubes and we performed an experiment to see if it would sink or float. Most of us thought it would sink, but we were wrong. Our pumpkin floated! On Friday, we cut our pumpkin open. We took turns pulling out the pulp and seeds. We made brace maps to show the parts of the pumpkin and we watched "The Pumpkin Circle." Next week, we are going to sprout pumpkin seeds and lima beans .

We measured how tall we are using a pumpkin ruler then we made a class book.

We learned about the parts of the pumpkin. We made a brace map to help us remember the parts we learned about.

Cooking Up Pancakes

This week, we made pancakes and wore pajamas in honor of the letter "P". We talked about following a recipe when we cook, we took turns mixing the batter, and we learned about different states of matter. We watched pancake mix turn from a solid to a liquid when we added milk to it. We watched our pancakes cook and then we did the best thing! We ate them! Yum-Yum!

From Head to Toe Class Book

We created a class book based on Eric Carle's book From Head to Toe. Ask us about all of the things we can do!

Smart Cookies!

This week, Ms. Tricoli, our librarian introduced us to rebus stories. We made our own rebus book by putting a paper cookie we made in place of the word "cookie." We can all do lots of things and that makes us all smart cookies!

Miss Spider's Tea Party

This week, we had a tea party in honor of Miss Spider. We tasted raspberry, peach, and orange teas to see which tea we liked the best. Most of us thought raspberry was the best. Only 1 person thought orange was the best.

Bat Jamboree

Our third grade book buddies visited us this week. They brought books about nocturnal animals and bats they had made with our hand prints. They taught us a song about bats and read to us. Next week, we are going to teach them our poem of the week and surprise them with special treats!

Field Trip to the Nature Center

This week we went on a field trip to the Nature Center. We used magnifying glasses to explore berries, bugs, sticks, and flowers. We read about life in a tree and found out how many links around the American Elm tree at the nature center is. We, also, found out how many kids around the tree is and watched bees going in and out of the hole in the tree making their hive. We read the book There was an Old Lady and studied insects and met the nature center's pet rabbit. Ms. Hollis cut up fresh green pepper from her garden for us to taste and she also let us touch her millipede. We really enjoyed chasing butterflies around the butterfly garden. It was a great day!
