"Donut" Forget to Read Party

Over Christmas break, our school took part in a reading challenge called "Donut Forget to Read." Students who read over the break and filled out their reading log got to go to a donut party in the library with Mrs. Tricoli.

Story Time with Ms. Tricoli

For story time this week, Ms. Tricoli read the book Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree by Robert Barry. They created a bubble map of other words that mean "big," looked at problem and solution, and sequenced the animals in the story.

The Cutest Peas in the Pod

This week, we celebrated the letter "R" so Ms. Tricoli chose Amy Krouse Rosenthal as the author of the week. Ms. Tricoli read the book Little Pea and the kindergartners had a pea flinging contest.

Each student took a turn at flinging a frozen pea off of a spoon.

After each flinging, Ms. Tricoli helped the students measure how far the pea went.

After measuring how far their pea went, each student made a little pea out of construction paper and recorded their distance on a number line graph.

Ms. Tricoli displayed each class's graph in the hallway for everyone to see. Mrs. Larremore's pea went farther than anyone else's!

Smart Cookies!

This week, Ms. Tricoli, our librarian introduced us to rebus stories. We made our own rebus book by putting a paper cookie we made in place of the word "cookie." We can all do lots of things and that makes us all smart cookies!
