What is a Shadow?

This week, we celebrated Groundhog's Day and we learned what makes a shadow. On Monday, we predicted whether or not we thought the groundhog would see his shadow. Then on Tuesday, we watched the news to see what happened. We also checked in with our Project Groundhog friends in Florida, West Virginia, Kentucky, New Foundland, and Canada to see what the weather was like for them. We read a book about shadows and went outside to find some shadows of our own. We took turns tracing each others shadow. We began our first week of data collecting for Project Groundhog and we sent information about our community to all of our Project Groundhog friends.

Patterns and Characteristics of Objects

This week, we learned about the characteristics of objects. We looked at fruit and discussed the different characteristics of each kind of fruit. Then we made predictions about what the fruits looked like on the inside. We cut the fruits open and then we ate all of the fruit up! We used this discussion later in the week when we talked about different kinds of animals and their characteristics.

"Pop" into the Library

In honor of the 100th day, our librarian had students "pop" into the library to check out a new book and to eat some popcorn. The first 100 students that went to the library for open check out got a small prize and a ticket for a drawing. What a great idea! Our students had tons of fun with it!
